Camera auto-corrects to follow behind your character, thus no real free look. You are constantly fighting the camera when trying to look off to sides while running.
When mounted on the horse you steer it BOTH by using movement keys, e.g. strafe left/right AND moving mouse left/right. I prefer to steer mount in games using movement keys and have camera move freely and independently from mount movement (e.g. how it is done in Red Dead Online). This is not the case in this game. This in turn compounds the previous issues of trying to look around while moving as you are fighting the camera AND steering the dumb horse while you are looking around.
Lock-on targeting has a major flaw where, once locked on, if you move mouse left or right while there is other enemies near center of the screen then you lock-on to the other enemies. This means, in the middle of combat, you sometimes “randomly” end up locked on to something far away and/or behind the closest threat.... AND your character then tries to move in relation to this new target which makes your camera go nuts and your character ends up walking or dodging directly into hits from the nearest threat.
Certain keybinds are not rebindable. For instance the G key is hardcoded to OPEN the map but NOT for CLOSING the map. So if you press G by accident, then press G again to try and close the map it does nothing but open even more menus on the map itself. Absolutely obnoxious.
Half the menus are closed by pressing a keybind, in my case Q (whatever that function is again) and the other half of the menus are closed by pressing Escape. And then some popup info menus are closed by pressing E (or the use/interact key). There is no uniform consistency on how to close menus, screens and whatnot.
Impossible to rebind menu + map traversal/action keys.
Map lacking mouse support. Must use WASD and preset keybinds.
Missing obvious direct shortcuts such as using 1, 2, 3 hotkeys, or F1, F2 etc. This could easily have been done for things such as activating items in your pouch. It would also allow you to bind all 6 items rather than just 4 (which is a limit based on controller stick having 4 directions). Also ability to use shortcut keys could be applied to actions such as swapping from one handed to twohanded stances.
